Make a "U" with your fingers and tap it twice on the side of your head near your temple to sign "uncle" in ASL. The sign comes from mixing the letter "U" and placing it near the head, as many family signs are made near this area. You can use this simple sign for any uncle, whether he's from your mom's or dad's side of the family. If you need to be clear about which uncle you mean, you can spell out his name or show if he's your mom's or dad's brother after making the basic sign.
